When someone has passed away, there’s already enough to bear. Where you’ll gather afterward shouldn’t be one of those things. Westerqwarn in Hallstahammar hosts memorial services where the historic setting itself helps carry some of the burden. We set the table, arrange the furniture, and serve refreshments. You can simply be there for one another.

The museum is a quiet space surrounded by millstones and preserved details

The museum is located in the old mill building, with machinery, millstones, and tools still in their original places. This lends the room a tranquility that a typical venue rarely has. Up to 60 people can gather here in a setting that feels rooted in history, not temporary.

A memorial table with photographs and flowers is always set up. If anyone would like to say a few words or play a song, speakers and a microphone are available on site. If your group is larger than the museum can accommodate, we’ll set up in the restaurant instead. The best option for you depends on how many people are coming, and we’ll work that out together.

You won't have to carry anything—the tables will be set when you arrive

A memorial service shouldn’t feel like an event you have to organize. When you arrive, the tables will be set and the room will be ready. We’ll serve the food, refill drinks, and clear the tables. You won’t have to get up to get coffee or keep track of who’s been served.

The only thing we need from you in advance is the number of guests and any dietary restrictions, at least seven days before the event. We’ll take care of the rest.

Sandwich cake and coffee starting at 250 kronor per person

Our most popular menu is a sandwich cake with shrimp and cheese or ham, from Håkans Hembageri, served with soda, light beer, or mineral water. It also includes pastries and coffee or tea from the buffet. The price is 250 kronor per person. If you’d prefer a slice of cake instead of pastries, the price is 295 kronor per person.

If you'd like something else, that's fine. A pizza buffet, dishes from our bistro menu, or a menu from the banquet hall—just let us know, and we'll put together a proposal. All prices include sales tax.

Larger reservation

For 30 or more people, the venue is included; for fewer than 30, there is an additional charge of 1,500 kronor

If your group consists of 30 people or more, the venue is included in the menu price. If your group is smaller, there is an additional venue rental fee of 1,500 kronor. We need to know the final headcount and any special dietary requests at least seven days in advance, as the kitchen plans its purchases based on that information.

Westerqwarn is located 20 minutes from Västerås, on the Strömsholm Canal

Westerqwarn is located on the Strömsholm Canal in Kolbäck, 20 minutes from Västerås via the E18 and the Kolbäck exit, and 30 minutes from Eskilstuna. Trains run to Kolbäck Station, followed by a few minutes by taxi from there. Free on-site parking is available, with plenty of space even for large groups.

As you turn onto the gravel road, you’ll see the buildings first, then the canal. It’s a peaceful place to visit.

How many people will the venue accommodate?

The museum can accommodate up to 60 people. If your group consists of 30 or more people, the venue is included in the menu price. If your group is smaller, there is an additional venue rental fee of 1,500 kronor. If your group exceeds 60 people, we will set the table in the restaurant instead.

What's on the menu, and how much does it cost?

Can we give speeches or play music?

Yes. A memorial table with a photograph and flowers is always set up, and we have speakers and a microphone on hand for speeches or your own music.

When do we need to provide the number of guests and any special dietary requests?

No later than 7 days in advance. The kitchen bases its purchases on your headcount, so the number needs to be finalized by then. We always tailor special dietary requests individually; please let us know at the same time.
